Commonly referred to as "Sulfur," hydrogen sulfide (h2s) is the odorous gas that smells like "rotten eggs" and is produced as a result of bacteria.
Where the hydrogen sulfide is present can greatly affect how it is treated.
If the sulfur smell is only present in the hot water, changing the water heater anode rod and sanitizing the water heater is effective at treating the sulfur smell.
If the sulfur smell is present at the pressure tank and/or well head, Sulfur Filters are effective at treating the sulfur smell. Depending on water chemistry, an ozone generator may be needed to fully treat the sulfur smell.
Regardless of where the sulfur smell is present, chlorine injection systems can be effective at treating the sulfur smell, however, we do not recommend adding chemicals to your water unless completely necessary.
