FAIRVIEW, NC-- Customer had a spin-down filter in place to catch sediment prior to our installation. We left it in place, before the neutralizer, water softener, and UV light, respectively. We do not generally recommend spin-down filters for handling sediment but, since the customer doesn't mind blowing the sediment out and cleaning the filter frequently, we agreed to leave it in place. Normally, we would recommend a canister filter or a settling tank - the user-friendly approach.
Since spin-down filters, generally, tend to allow some particulate past, we recommended installing the neutralizer to both correct the pH and handle the remaining sediment. The water softener, however, should not be installed alone, if sediment is present since sediment has the tendency to tear up seals and clog baskets.
We recommend installing UV lights after some type of sediment filter, otherwise, the warranty would be voided and the UV light could be less effective.
The customer is happy with their new and improved water quality - void of excess sediment, hardness, microorganisms, and corrosively low pH!
