Sediment Filters

Canister Filters

A digital illustration of a blue canister filter.

Canister filters are used for the removal of sediment. They are not ideal for the removal of ferric (precipitated) iron because they clog quickly, requiring very frequent changes to maintain. Typical filters are not designed to be reused and should not be washed off and reused.

String-wound sediment filter.

**We recommend using the 5 micron string-wound filters**

Benefits of canister filters:

∙ Energy efficiency - uses no electricity

∙ fairly Easy to maintain

∙ potential cost savings, depending on the water

Settling Tanks

A cropped photo of a fiberglass settling tank with transparent background.

Settling tanks are used for the removal of sediment. They are ideal when there is a high sediment load and/or ferric iron that would quickly overwhelm a canister filter.

Benefits of a Settling Tank:

∙ Hands-free sediment treatment

∙ Automated purging

∙ Cost savings over time

∙ Can handle high sediment load

∙ Easy to maintain
