Not just the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

A day in the life of a Filtration Service Tech:

Our Technicians show up to the office in Asheville (Woodfin) bright and early. They review the customer files for the day. Every detail matters. Once our Techs are familiarized with each Service Appointment for the day, the van is loaded, and it's off to the first appointment. Upon arrival, the Customer is greeted and asked about any issues with their water... and then, it's off to the land of the great unknown.

You never know what you'll find in someone's crawl space, basement, garage, or pump house (lots of webs, spiders, snakes, mold, etc.) but once our Techs have eyes on the filtration, the fun begins. They quickly assess the state of the filtration and look for red flags. Often times, there's a container under a canister filter collecting a drip, or a puddle on the ground instead. When this happens, there can only be one culprit... the formidable O-RING.

The rubber O-Ring on a canister filter should seat nicely in its groove, coated in a healthy layer of grease, but not just any grease. An immediate red flag is often petroleum jelly (and Vaseline, or Aquaphor) used as grease on the O-ring. Food safe silicone grease is the only lubricant that should be used on a canister filter O-ring. Petroleum-based grease will degrade the O-ring, causing failures. Over tightening can also cause damage to the O-ring. With the proper silicone-based grease, the canister should be hand tightened only.

Have no fear. We supply our customers with the right grease with every canister filter we install. Every time we service our canister filters, we clean and lubricate the O-ring along with the routine filter change!
