In the Wake of The Disaster

If you are reading this, you are fortunate. You likely also have a story to tell of what you, or someone you know, experienced on September 27, 2024. That day changed many of our lives. Hopefully, the result of such a devastating event is a net-positive. In reality, it is both...

But here we are, with quite a mess on our hands (to say the least). Much of our beautiful, fun, friendly little mountain communities and landmarks are covered in debris, destruction, and remnants of the livelihoods of many kind, helpful, caring families scattered everywhere. Horrifying images not needing description, some of which many of us witnessed and experienced first hand... and we survived.

Hurricane Helene will very likely remain a household name. As part of the rebuilding and healing process, we are in this together. No one should be neglected, abandoned, or suffering. Together, we can restore, repair, and build it even better than it was before. One of the many important lessons many of us have learned in the wake of this disaster is to reach out to your people. Communication is precious.

In those terrifying hours of zero communication; no cell signal, no internet, no power, no transportation... we entered a new world, the world of the unknown. For me, personally, it filled my heart with hope, love, and desire. I hoped and desired nothing more than my loved ones be okay, to hug them once more, and to see them smile again. Thankfully, in my case, all of the above came to fruition. This isn't the case for several others and, to me, nothing could be more horrifying.

If there's something else I've realized in the wake of the disaster, it's that we are not just a water filtration company. You are not just a postal worker, contractor, physician, entrepreneur, or architect. We are all members of a beautiful community, a family of families. The outpouring of aid, relief, rescue, support, and COMMUNICATION, has been awe inspiring. We are people who care about people, life, and quality of life. We are "boots on the ground" helpers. What we go through doesn't necessarily define who we are, it's how we respond to what we go through that defines who we are. We are in this together and, together, we will rise, no matter the occasion.

Mountain Water Systems will continue to support our WNC community through the restoration process. We understand the need for clean, safe, drinking water that is free of harmful contaminants. We are NOT certified to test for bacteria but we have the ability to effectively deactivate 99.999% of bacteria and viruses in water. If you are concerned about potentially harmful microorganisms in your water, we recommend having your water tested by the county or by a state certified laboratory. We are working with local agencies to provide communities with potable drinking water, including multiple variations of the system pictured above. By filtering water through a step-by-step process of sterilizing, otherwise contaminated water is made drinkable on demand. The list of locations is growing but, currently, you can find this system at First Baptist Church Weaverville, and Covenant Community Church in Asheville.

We are so incredibly grateful that you are here reading this, and to be in this together with you. Please reach out to us if you need anything at all.

Sincerely,

Mountain Water Systems
